Snom phone won’t get DHCP address
We have recently had issue’s where customers complain that their Snom phone does not receive a DHCP. Specific symptoms of this are that the customer is able to boot the phone once and gain an IP address but fails to on subsequent reboots
The key information that was missing was that they had subsequently moved the phone to another switch port
In this specific scenario, there is high possibility that they may be connected to a switch that is actively using VLAN’s and their DHCP server has provided a VLAN in option 132/133.
If a phone has been setup on one port that either uses LLDP or DHCP to set the vlan ID of the phone and is then moved to another port or switch that uses a different tag it will not get a DHCP address as the port will not allow access on the previous VLAN ID
Without a complete settings reset the vlan can be reset;
Hit X to stop any new DHCP requests and wait approx. 60secs the phone will then boot with no IP. Then press down until you reach “VLAN settings” then press left until you reach “reset” press tick to reset the VLAN settings http://wiki.snom.com/Snom300/Phone_User_Interface/V8

Complete settings reset
Snom 7/8 Series – Boot Phone into ‘Rescue Mode’ and reset the phone. You can access Rescue Mode by rebooting the phone whilst holding down # key, choose option 2 to reset the phone. Then configure the phone whilst attached to the switch port that it is going to operate on
Snom 3 Series – Perform a TFTP Reset
It will affect all Firmware especially on v8 . The older firmware’s on 3xx may not fall foul of it as DHCP and LLDP options for it were added during v7/8 rather than 8/7 series phone which have always supported it.
